A novel idea

Elizabeth Rose: building a novel.

It all started with a simple idea. I love words, writing, websites and blogs. I want to write a publishable novel, and used the internet based NanoWrimo challenge to get started: you write a 50,000 word novel in a month: what you do with it is up to you. What I want to do is make it publishable. For assistance, I created www.tastingfreedom.blogspot.com

This blog is where I pinpoint certain pivotal scenes, question my characters, decide on names, settings etc. The idea and words are mine but this experiment is to see how much the guidance of others can help shape my characters and their lives and create further realism than the microcosm of the novel that is bursting open inside my brain.

Up to now this blog has helped decide upon the name of my village, pointed out a flaw (poppy fields up north?), finalised surnames, and questioned the motive of my main character Lily; would she really commit suicide? It has killed of a character before she even emerged (poor Rebecca, long may you rest in peace) and invented a whole series of recipes which are there for the picking…
